D.L. Jackson's FLIGHT OF THE ARK

                                                  FLIGHT OF THE ARK

                                 by D.L. JACKSON

On August 2nd, 2013, D.L. Jackson will re-release her popular novel, Last Flight of the Ark. Take it away, D.L.!

What would you do to save the lives of two thousand, when the enemy who stands against you is faster, stronger and more intelligent? Would you break the law and face execution? Would you employ biological warfare against your own, condemning them to exile, not knowing if what you do can ever be reversed? What is the cost of living? Is there a price you wouldn’t pay? These are the questions Kaleb Titan, my hero in Last Flight of the Ark, faces.

Now, throw in a wolf-human mutation and all the emotional and physical complications that come along with it, add an enemy that is higher on the food-chain and desperate to save their dying species, and you have the premise behind this story of love, human grit and mortal choices.

When I first wrote Last Flight of the Ark, I wanted a hero that had to make some possibly immoral choices—if you will, decide between the worst of two evils. But can he do it? Can he choose to wipe out an entire alien civilization to save two thousand of his own?

To find out, you can get the early release Wednesday July 31st from Amazon. Last Flight of the Ark will be offered at a discounted price of $2.99. Even if you’ve read this novel before, you will find several expanded scenes not seen in the original. On August 2nd, the book will revert to full price and will be available at other locations.

Blurb:

 Evolution never happened so fast.

Twelve hours outside of Terra II, Colonel Kaleb Titan, a molecular geneticist and commander of the Ark faces a life or death choice that could change the fate of mankind.

The Genesis I, aka the Ark, travels with a hold full of wildlife and three crew members. When a wolf bite and genetically-altering gamma radiation transform Kaleb, he notices his senses have been heightened, his libido has gone haywire and he can’t keep his hands off his crew. Worse yet, they don't seem inclined to stop him.

When their sister ship, the Genesis II arrives early, Kaleb’s problems compound. As soon as the command crew of the Genesis II boards, one whiff tells Kaleb they’re not from Earth or who they appear to be.

When he discovers that they’ve kept the Genesis II’s crew of over two thousand alive, he begins to believe their reasons may be far more ominous than anyone could have imagined. However, he also discovers what’s holding them back. The hijackers seem to be allergic to canines.

Now they're forced to employ biological warfare against their own, but will it be enough to save humanity?

History is about to repeat and only one species will survive.

Excerpt:

“Barometric pressure?”

“Stable.” Jessica’s voice crackled back through the com.

“Radiation?”

“Within normal parameters.”

“Surface temperature in sector three?”

“A balmy eighty-seven. Terra II is primed and ready. We should arrive within twelve hours. All the readings from the meteorological remote say it’s stable. No surprises.”

There should be no surprises; they’d been through the numbers four times.

“Good. That should do it. Why don’t you call it a night?”

Melissa would relieve him soon, until then…. Colonel Kaleb Titan stretched and reclined. He threw his feet up on the instrument panel and yawned. Melissa would have a fit if she saw them on her baby’s console, but he really didn’t care. He wouldn’t be on this bucket of rust much longer.

All he wanted to do was sit back and take it all in from the best seat in the house. They were close enough he should be able to see Terra II with the naked eye and he’d been waiting all night for the chance. She’d look more like a star from the distance, but that didn’t matter. Novae, the equivalent of Earth’s sun, would be illuminating the sector on the surface that contained their home—right about now. He had to see it. To date, he’d only viewed pictures of Terra II, sent by a satellite that monitored the world.

Eight months. He’d worked so hard for this moment, and all his dreams were about to materialize. It couldn’t get any better than this. Well, maybe. He could use a cold beer and a slice of pizza. He flipped a switch and opened the visor, ready to soak in the view of his new home.

Kaleb’s eyes widened. “Ah, shit.” His feet hit the deck with a thump. He’d been too busy going over the damned reports from the surface of Terra II to notice. He punched his com and paged Jessica, hoping she hadn’t left the lab yet.

“Sir?”

No, she’d lingered, perhaps feeling as restless and unable to sleep as he had.

“What the fuck is that?” He leaned forward. A purple cloud spread before them. Electrical sparks danced like fireflies through the mass. “You got a reading on that?”

“A reading on what, sir?” Jessica said.

So I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the re-release of one of my favorite novels, and discover what choice Kaleb Titan makes. For buy links, please stop by my website http://www.authordljackson.com. I’ll be updating it as the novel releases.

Thanks for visiting,

Mahalia Levey's KISS ME LIKE YOU MEAN IT

New Release Spotlight

KISS ME LIKE YOU MEAN IT

By Mahalia Levey

Blurb
One gigantic mistake threatens to bring Carlie Steven’s world crumbling down. Everywhere she turns she’s faced with reminders of the drunken moment leaving her friendless, expelled from her Ivy League College. With Jackson out of the country singing for the troops, his empty home will give her the breathing room she needs while coming up with a game plan to fix her situation.
Playing guitar used to be enough for Jackson Laurent. For years he’s played the part of not giving a fuck. Too many one night stands in the bag leave him wanting what his two friends have found. With only a handful of shows left on the tour, his mind wanders to the off limits Carlie Stevens. For years, he’s denied the brewing attraction. When he finds she’s taken up residence in his home. He may have the in he’s wanted for too many years to count.

Excerpt
The smell of ocean welcomed him. He stepped out of his service car, hoisted his backpack and clicked the handle on his suitcase. Why carry something that had rollers. The house was dark in the early afternoon, making him wonder if he still had a houseguest.
He entered and placed his things in the foyer. Emotions long forgotten tugged at him. Every time he stepped foot in his childhood house, he expected to see his mother come down the stairs to greet him with a warm smile on her face, smelling like an afternoon spent baking. And, as always, reality cruelly crashed down, reminding him of fate’s viciousness. With a sigh, he looked toward the staircase. Carlie. Carlie. Carlie.

Jackson walked up the stairs, toward his bedroom, noting how everything looked to be in in place, as if Carlie didn’t dare disturb anything. He passed by his mom’s bedroom, now a guest room. He ruminated on things, what to say, what would her reaction be to seeing him?

What he loved most about flying was sleeping, but thanks to one overprotective brother he barely rested at all, with his mind obsessing over the sweet woman in his bed.
A foul odor hit his nose upon opening the door to his bedroom. He ignored the stink and approached his bed covered in chocolate wrappers, empty bags of fast food and the girl sleeping on top of the covers in the same clothes he saw her in online while he was in Afghanistan.
Garrick always boasted of his ‘sleep like the dead’ sisters. He decided to test out the theory. He tapped her and got nothing. He picked her up. Her head lolled over, a halo of hair fanning out. A loud snore popped out of her mouth. He tried to smooth her tangled hair out of the way and carried her into his bathroom. With one hand, he turned on the shower and stepped into the cold water fully dressed, holding her.
Carlie screamed. Her beautiful eyes popped opened as she came to and began thrashing in his arms.
“Sorry, princess. You need a shower, you stink.” Jackson whipped her soaking wet shirt over her head and unsnapped her bra with one hand while she shivered and glared daggers at him. He bent down and whisked off her leggings and thong, and then threw all the pieces out of the shower.
“What are you doing?” Carlie hissed the words thorough chattering teeth. She gave up attempting to cover her nudity with her hands and wiped her plastered hair away from her eyes.
“Right now I’m standing in my shower under freezing water with a smelly girl.” He reached up and adjusted the blasts to give them warm water. Jackson stepped out to get a clean cloth and returned to her. Her skin flushed with the steam pouring through the glass enclosed shower.

“I mean what are you doing home?”

He chuckled. “I didn’t know I needed permission to come to my house.” He grabbed his body wash and lathered up the cloth.
“I swear I’m going to kill you for tossing me in a cold shower.” Anger blazed in her flushed face as she stared him down.
“That’s good then, means you’re no longer cowering in your stupid self-pity party.”
“What, are you going to do with that?” She eyed him nervously, ignoring his words.
“Well, I figured your hands must be broken or something so I’d wash you, since you can’t do so yourself.”
“Uh-uh, no way. Give me that.” She tugged at the sudsy cloth in his hand, his gaze dropping to her lush breasts.
“Nice.” He winked at the way they bounced with her efforts to take the wash rag. He let her have the wet cloth and watched the recoil, suds covering her chin, dripping down her neck, between the valley of her tits, and the path downward. Damn she was in great shape.
“Get. Out.” She pointed to the door, her face flushing a deep red.
“I don’t mind helping, not at all.” The sheer stubbornness in her glare told to him to surrender. With a sigh, he stepped out of the stall. “Get clean. We’ll talk after you’re done.”
“Fine. Privacy would be nice. Please close the door behind you.”
“See you soon.” He stripped off his clothes on the other side, knowing she had a direct view of him. His dick jerked in the cool air. At her gasp, he noticed her riveted gaze stayed on his Prince Albert and beads. He quirked a brow at her, ready to answer any questions she might have. “Done staring at my dick?” The crass words caused her head to jerk and her gaze to land on his.
“Could you be more of an asshole?”
He smirked in response, snagged a towel and walked into his bedroom. Carlie’s continued rant echoed in his bathroom, the sound carrying into his master bedroom.
“Perfect princess, you know this is who I am and you still wanted to jump my bones.”
“I hate that nickname. Whatever. I don’t want to jump anything on you.”
While she screamed expletives at him from the other side of the door in a righteous fit of temper, he dried off and put on a fresh pair of jeans and a T-shirt, impressed that she knew such a dirty range of swear words, and used them. Ten minutes later, Carlie emerged with a huge fluffy towel around her lithe body.
“Let’s get one thing straight. I’m not a new notch for your bedpost, don’t ever strip me naked again. I made a stupid drunken comment months ago that will not happen in this lifetime. Got it? Better yet maybe you should move to the other room while you’re here.”
“Don’t hole yourself in my bedroom like a hoarder,” he snapped back, grabbed his trashcan from the bedside and began tossing wrappers and leftover crap inside. He stopped to gift her with a glare. “This is my room. You don’t dictate where I will or won’t sleep in my fucking house, princess. Got it?” He resumed his task and counted backward from twenty to cool his temper. The heady scent of innocence dripped from her delectable body, driving him mad. He needed his hands occupied to prevent him from lashing out at her in sexual frustration.

HEAT WAVE!

Coming in August...

HEAT WAVE

BLURB:
Sent into the human realm to retrieve prodigal princess, Zena Night, Bhyrne Raines is shocked and unprepared for his carnal reaction to the sexy succubus. In service to the succubus queen, the rugged enforcer must stifle the instant passion exploding within him. Fulfilling his royal duty doesn’t allow for quickie dalliances. His biological clock is ticking, and he begins to enter breedspawn, an intense and unstoppable frenzy of mating all fire-demon males must endure. But the more he wants to avoid Zena, the more he’s drawn to her.

Reluctant to give up her carefree life of partying among the mortals when the hot-as-sin Bhyrne comes to fetch her for the queen, Zena uses her succubus wiles to entice him, or at least delay the inevitable trip to the royal court. Once in the demon stronghold, hidden deep within the Catskill mountains, she learns the reason for the summons: she must choose a consort within two days.

Zena needs a mate. Bhyrne needs to mate. With time running out for both of them, they each turn to 1Night Stand. With time running out, can Madame Eve come to the rescue?

EXCERPT:

Holy freeze gun, Batman. The words died before she managed to expose them to air. Her mouth snapped shut.

One of the Queen’s guards stood before her, huge and tall, nearly twice the size of most of the other males in the joint, a hella hunka supernatural male. Clearly not human, although Hugo Boss’d to his Adam’s apple in an apparent bid to fit in among the humans trolling for hot sex, illicit drugs, watered-down booze and loud music. Beneath the fabric of the unstructured designer suit, the toned muscles of a demonic warrior rolled like tidal waves. Even without the small lapel pin the uninformed might mistake for the The Rolling Stones’ logo, she’d recognize him for a captain of the guard. Maybe the Queen’s own Captain.

Hellfire and cotton candy. Trouble. T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

But, by the goddess, whattahottie! Despite her certainty that his presence in the club corridor boded ill for her, the force of her sudden hunger shook her.

Like lightning.

Thunder.

A desperate bolt out of the blue.

Instant connection to him on the paranormal plane, as if he’d wrapped her aura in gold chains and tugged her to him. But did that fast lane to heaven run one way or two?

A grim expression straightened the lines of what otherwise might have been a generous, sensuous mouth. A military buzz cut had weed-whacked hair the color of iron. And it didn’t stop there. Without doubt, metal fortified every single cell in the massive male’s body, pure titanium flowing in his veins. The stern planes and angles of a hard-edged, swoon-worthy face set grimly as cement. Though he lounged in the hallway like any Archie or Jughead waiting in line to discharge his rented beer in a urinal, he exuded authority, his carriage and bearing such that he made the others look like a pack of Twizzlers. Oh. Yeah. More than a mere guardsman, she guessed. An enforcer.

Cold Warriors Universe

So pleased to have Clare Dargin with me today, talking about her latest release, Ice and Peace, from her Cold Warriors Universe series:

A Journey Into A New World

I love watching scifi movies that draw me in.  When I go to the movies and the lights are turned down and film flickers to life and that space ship blasts across the screen I am in a different world.  Lately I've been totally into JJ Abrams interpretation of the Star Trek Universe.

It's like when I watch it, I'm enthralled because he immerses us in that world.  From the clothes, the technology, the sounds and the people.  They are just as vested in what they do in their extraordinary lives as we are in our normal ones.  And that's the best part.  JJ draws us into the amazing and makes it appear mundane enough for us to believe that it is plausible.

The same thing goes for an amazing book, the first few pages are key for creating an atmosphere of reality to where we as the reader are right there from the beginning to the very end.  And that's what I try to do in every book that I write.

For instance, when I was writing Cold Warriors, I would often have long periods between writing (mostly because life got in the way).  But when I wanted to regain the feel of the book, I never had to dig deep in the middle to find it, I just clicked on the first page:

            Excerpt from Cold Warriors

Lieutenant Zale Melbyrne, of the U.S. Marines First Platoon Combat Search And Rescue Squadron (CSAR), climbed wearily out of his yellow Harsh Terrain Snow Tractor (HTST). It was his squadron’s fourth check in an eighty-kilometer zone, and there was no sign of the missing Expeditionary Team. He had a sinking feeling that their luck was running out. He stepped forward. His foot crunched against the steadily hardening snow. Greeted by an icy wind, he shuddered. He zipped up his black parka and pulled his hood tight over his cap-covered head to protect himself from the subzero temperatures. Tau Ceti III’s bitter cold was legendary, along with its ability to give cold injuries so deep, muscles and even bones were permanently ruined.

He squinted and gazed at the snow-covered landscape. Over two miles thick, and in some locations, crusted with long stretches of ice, Tau Ceti III was Satan’s frozen equivalent of Antarctica back on Earth except not as pretty and with no animals or life to speak of whatsoever. Essentially a white desert, the piercingly dry air could rip the moisture right out of a person’s body in a matter of minutes.

Freezing and thirsty, it was a miserable way to die.

If I wanted easy then I should have picked a desk job.

To me, that scene with Zale Melbyrne framed the type of life that the Hero and Heroine have to overcome in order to obtain happiness.  By the way, even though Zale is a minor character, he has developed a little following of his own!

In the second book in The Cold Warriors Universe, 'Ice and Peace,' the hero and heroine are faced with new challenges to overcome.

A quick blurb-

A New Threat? After a long and vicious war, peace is on the horizon for Earth and its allies. However, a series of mysterious attacks on several secret military installations causes hostilities to rise once again.

Redemption. Having left under a cloud of disgrace, retired Marine Colonel Medoro Keegan is called back to duty.

Bound. His wife Caitlin, the only surviving member of her team, chooses to embrace life, albeit grudgingly, as a cryo soldier. Seen as sub-human, she is forced to serve a planet that denies her rights as a person.

Driven. Guided by their sense of duty and belief that some things are bigger than them, they are determined to risk it all.

Hope. The cost of war is high. Can their love and marriage survive? Or will it be killed off by the very same mission that brought them together?

~Excerpt~

Caitlin was a sight for sore eyes. She was beautiful. Her petite frame was perfectly accented by the curves of her figure. And her brown eyes and coffee-brown skin was smooth, creamy.

Standing at attention, she did not meet his gaze. Though it was customary not to do as a sign of military courtesy, he could tell she was not doing it for that reason. Her gaze was different. Circling her, he tried to see if he could catch her watching him out of the corner of her eye. In fact, she appeared to be staring blankly ahead.

Peering directly at her, he spoke in a soft tone. “At ease.”

She relaxed.

“Cate. Can you hear me?”

“Yes, sir,” she responded mechanically.

Pain pierced his insides. She was definitely not there. Keegan placed his hands on his hips and hung his head in defeat. The one thing that was supposed to go right did not. For whatever reason, they had placed her in a deeper state of mental control than she’d ever been in. He controlled the hostile emotions brewing with him. Touching her face gently, he felt her icy skin.

This is unacceptable! Not here. I will not let this happen here. Not under my command.

“Chief, listen up,” he said in an authoritative tone. He knew in this state, it was the only way he could speak to her and still have her respond.

“Yes, sir.” Her gaze became even more distant.

Her response fueled his anger. “You are going to hightail it down to the doc and receive a full examination. Tell him it is based on my orders. He will know what to do. Is that clear?”

“Yes, sir.”

Knowing that she was under the influence of cryo neurotransmitters, Keegan figured the only way to combat it was to get someone to reverse it. They usually wore off once she was away from the stimulus triggers for a long period of time. But considering her stimulus triggers were high-ranking officers in uniform and combat situations, being around here meant she was going to be in a drone zone for a very long time. The last thing he needed was a zombie on board, especially one in charge of the lives others.

Only the jerks in psyche warfare thought doing this to someone would be a good idea. As long as he was running the ship, none of that would be allowed. There weren’t going to be any super zombies soldiers on board his ship. And he’d rollover in his grave before he let them do it to his wife.

“After you come back from the doc, you will report to me, understood?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Are there any questions?”

“No, sir.”

“Dismissed.”

She did an about face before leaving the room. Keegan clasped his hands behind his back. In the blink of an eye, his joy had turned to sorrow. Now faced with the responsibility of looking after his wife, he wondered how could he handle the burden of command and still protect the woman he loved.

Cold Warriors and Ice Peace are not your typical military reads.  Futuristic Romances with a science fiction twist, they will draw you in and keep you there, and no doubt you'll love the ride!

Soundtracks

Sometimes our lives  have soundtracks. We remember where we were, what we were doing when a particular song came on. A movie, a dance, sunning at the beach. A special someone, who shared it, and the song became "ours." A wedding.

Was watching a silly movie the other day, and the characters kept referring to another movie that one of them thought had the best soundtrack of all time: The Breakfast Club.  (Because of Simple Minds' Don't You Forget About Me).

I'm not sure about that.

There are a lot of movies with great soundtracks. I think this is a generational thing. One generation might go with Casablanca and As Time Goes By. Another might go with 8 Mile or Pump Up the Volume.

Or Coming Home, the  heavy on classic Vietnam-era tunes by the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, Hendrix and other 60's artists: Hey Jude, Strawberry Fields, Call on Me, Once I Was, Expecting to Fly, For What It's Worth, Time Has Come Today, Just Like a Woman, Save Me, Follow, Manic Depression, White Rabbit, Out of Time, No Expectations, Jumpin' Jack Flash, My Girl, Ruby Tuesday, Sympathy for the Devil, Bookends, Born to Be Wild. (Yeah, I like that one. The soundtrack of my life.)

A reader (and fellow author), told me  every time she heard the title of my erotic paranormal 1Night Stand story, LIGHTNING, she thought of The Wanted's song of the same name:

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQyHyfLp5NI

And Decadent Publishing's co-owner, Heather Bennett, thought AC/DC's Thunderstruck was a great soundtrack for THUNDER, my second Sleepy Hollow 1Night Stand story for Decadent:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2AC41dglnM.

(Did you know THUNDER is only 99 cents on Amazaon right now? It's a limited time only, so catch it quick!)

Both those songs have become earworms for me lately, popping into my head at the weirdest times.

What's the soundtrack of your life?

Virginia Nelson's RUNAWAY GROOM reveal!

Delighted to have Viriginia Nelson as my guest today, revealing her cover for RUNAWAY GROOM!

Here's Virginia:

Runaway Groom is the first book in my Watkin’s Pond series and I’m super happy to have the cover to share with everyone. So, for the cover reveal… *drumroll please*

About the Book

On Sale: January 2014

The groom is back in town.

Abigail lost her best friend years ago when he ditched her at the altar like a loaf of stale bread. Now he’s back and determined to do whatever he has to—even lie, apparently—to get under her skin. Although he makes her hormones rev to life in a way that no one has since he left, she is equally determined not to fall for his boy-next-door charm.

His bride-to-be is somewhat reluctant.

Braxton Dean was too young and stupid to know better when he walked away. Years of trying to fill the Abby-shaped hole in his heart have left him empty, and now he’s going to win back his girl—or get over her. But first he needs answers. Particularly why she never responded to any of his letters.

It might take a whole town to make this wedding happen.

With the help of their friends, the two battle it out. The army? An entire town of busybodies. The prize? Happily ever after.

Warning: Contains indignant old ladies, steamy sex (but not with indignant old ladies), seduction cake, and condom bouquets. Yes, we went there.

About the Author

Virginia Nelson spends her days chasing three very active kids around.  When she is not doing this, or plotting taking over the world, she likes to write, play in the mud, drive far too fast and scream at inanimate objects.  She can often be found listening to music that is far too loud and typing her next fantastic tale of blood, sex and random acts of ineptitude.  Romance, in Ms. Nelson’s opinion, is not about riding off into the sunset on the back of a horse with the knight in shining armor— it is about riding the dragon.  If the knight can keep up… well, that is love.

My Sexy Saturday 7-6-13

A little BLIZZARD heat this Saturday.

The man removed his parka, revealing a plaid flannel shirt, the triangle of a white, cold-weather T-shirt peeping from the open neckline. When he raised his arms, thick bands of muscle rippled across his chest, beneath the layers of fabric. He riveted her with brilliant azure eyes, bluer than a lake under the summer’s sun. His hair, which curled a bit boyishly at his temples, resembled a wet beach, light, dirty brown, with shimmering bronze threads straggling through the locks. But this was no boy. No, indeed.

God. Gorgeous did not even begin to cover it.

THUNDER!

On Independence Day last year, I began writing THUNDER.

LIGHTNING, my first 1Night Stand story for Decadent Publishing, had recently been accepted. The heroine of LIGHTNING, Lily Night, had two sisters. The hero, Campbell Jones, had a brother. The Jones brothers' had business acquaintances with potential for stories fo their own. My editor, Valerie Mann, pointed that out to me.  I thought, hey, why not?

I submitted THUNDER a couple of weeks later. The 1Night Stands were incredible fun to write. Especially after I had been bogged down for awhile in longer manuscripts, many still uncompleted and/or homeless. And, thrilling for me, you just filled out the Decadent Publishing submission form and attached the full manuscript. No hideous querying letters. No quagmire synopses. And, writing them was a whole lot of fun!

THUNDER takes place on the Fourth of July and there are plenty of fireworks between Sean and Veronica. Enjoy the excerpt!

And don't forget to check out yesterday's blog, too. If you leave a comment there, you'll be eligible for my giveaway!

“How’d you get this number, princess?” Sean Jones growled into his phone. He nearly knocked the irritating instrument off the nightstand.

The naked supermodel lying next to him in bed murmured her annoyance and rolled over, presenting him with her back.

The woman on the other end of his private line was going to be the frickin’ death of him. Literally, figuratively, every which way there was.

“I advised your office I had an emergency.” The plummy, aristocratic Veronica Hardwicke crooned in his ear. “I need you out here at once, Mr. Jones.”

Of course, she did. Probably to fire up her outdoor barbecue, hang a picture, open a jar of pickles or something equally trivial. The rich but needy young widow knew he ran whenever she summoned him. He couldn’t help himself. It was as if he’d been ensorcelled.

Despite all her brittle grandeur and hauteur, she personally brought lemonade and little sandwiches and cookies to his construction crews. And the uncertain, vulnerable way he caught her nibbling on her lower lip, wrapping a strand of dark hair around her finger or tugging on one delicate earlobe made him want to wrap her in his comforting embrace.

Not that he studied her that intently.

The woman drove him stark, staring nuts. But he had a demented need to protect her. From what, he didn’t know. Jesus. He was on New York Magazine’s Most Eligible Bachelor list, for fuck’s sake. Youngest, Wealthiest, Most Influential Real Estate Developer—but let Veronica Hardwicke crook her little finger and he danced to her tune.

Despite the fact she was a certified pain in the ass, and he’d been sexually satisfied by the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model in his bed only moments before, his cock twitched, instantly aroused, at the mere sound of Veronica’s voice. Her breathy purr did bad, bad things to him.

Hell. The entire Veronica package did bad, bad things to him. No denying the woman was one smokin’ hot babe. A loony babe. But a damn fine babe nonetheless.

He pictured the exotic tilt of her eyes, greener than the well-tended lawn at the Belmont Estate that By Jones was gutting and renovating for her, the ripe, red mouth he’d often imagined sucking his engorged dick. The juicy peach of an ass he dreamed of plowing, the awesome tits she barely bothered to conceal when he was around, and the splash of silky, midnight hair he badly wanted to feel caressing his bare chest.

Witchy woman. What was it about her? The ass, tits, eyes, mouth, and hair. The much-photographed piece of arm candy currently gracing his bed seemed a pale imitation of womanhood by comparison. He refused to admit he’d recently found it harder to perform unless he was picturing Veronica’s seductive face unguarded in the throes of orgasmic ecstasy, or fantasizing about her lush body, shuddering in his arms in climax, screaming his name in her release.

Hell. Maybe “Shallow Sex Hound” should be stamped on his forehead, like his  brother thought. He made allowances for Campbell, though. The eldest Jones brother walked around in a blissful haze lately. After finding true love, he wanted everyone around him to be just as insanely, cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs delirious…. Sean didn’t envy him. Not even remotely.
Well, maybe a little.

I’m happy the way I am.

He squelched the words “hollow” and “empty” before they could fully form in his head and silenced the competing devils perched on his shoulders. He pretended the grind of staying out with a different model or starlet every night was not beginning to take a toll. He was twenty-seven years old. In his partying prime. But sometimes he felt like forty-seven.

And since the crazy woman in Sleepy Hollow had inserted herself into his life…. “It’s a holiday weekend, Mrs. Hardwicke.” He glanced at the cover girl curled beside him. “I’ve got plans.”

Plans that included lolling around in bed with Erica all weekend. Maybe whipped cream. Or chocolate sauce. The A/C cranked high in his luxury Manhattan condo to block out the brutal summer rays. Maybe afterward taking in a little of the Independence Day fireworks display from his floor-to-ceiling windows and balcony overlooking New York Harbor.

   En-fucking-chanting.

    But still.

The thought of ditching his current squeeze and battling Fourth of July traffic and the sweltering temperature to drive up to Westchester so that the ditzy broad calling the shots on the renovation project could request changes yet again to the old mansion in Sleepy Hollow, did not sit at all well with him. She’d already made him yank out four bathrooms three times.
