Sunday stuff

Yeah, so. Thought we'd try something a tad different today. From a long ago WIP that remarkably resurfaced last weekend. My unnamed not-so-secret baby story:

Joe scooped the whimpering child out of the dirt and into his arms. He hot-footed over to his office door, away from the throng already gathering to gossip in the street.
“You’re going to be fine, champ.” He laid Danny on the bare examination table. The little boy's blue eyes were awash with tears.

He'd ripped through both legs of his dusty overalls and scraped the palms of his hands. The angry wound on his torn knee oozed blood. But a quick assessment convinced Joe the child had sustained no serious trauma.

“Let’s see if we can patch you up, okay?”

Danny sat up and looked around, choking back a sob. “This in't the feed store."

“My office now.”
"I  fought you were a fisherman.”
“I am,” Joe said. “And a doctor.”

The child absorbed that. His teary eyes widened. "Are you Joe Granville?”

           Joe nodded.

          “I’m Danny Granville.”

Words failed him so he bobbed his head again, like an apple in a tub.

“Do you like me?” the little boy demanded.

A large lump lodged in Joe’s throat. “Very much.” He could barely force air through his lungs or the words past his lips.
“You’re big, but not as big as I thought,” Danny mused. "Mom says Pritchard Falls in't big enough for you. But you look like you fit okay to me."

HUMP DAY HOOK 2-27-13

Here's a bit from BLIZZARD, which released last week from Decadent Publishing's erotica line, The Edge.

It's short, it's HOT, but it's sweet. And it's a romance!

She wanted to play, too. God knew she did. But not with any of them. Maybe she longed for sex right now, even a desperate hook-up. It had been so long since she’d gotten down and dirty. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d had sex with her husband. But no way would she give any of those pathetic pitch guys at the convention a tumble.

The last telephone conversation with her husband had left her agitated and her stomach in knots from an urgent need to get home and see him. To talk face to face. These days, with their hectic schedules, they communicated mainly by text message and Post-It note.

Sizzling Sunday 2-24-13

From BLIZZARD, just released from Decadent Publishing's The Edge, erotica line.  From where last Sunday's post left off:

"Do you…do you get these kinds of offers a lot?"

"Nope." He dipped a couple more fries into a paper cup of ketchup and crammed them into his piehole along with the rest. She watched his jaw work. Square. Hard. Solid. An utterly masculine jawline. His lips were firm and she wanted to feel them on hers. Feel them everywhere. "So it’s not like I’m gonna pass up an opportunity."

Her heart raced. He was going to give her what she wanted. What she so desperately craved.

Saturday Spotlight on Krista Ames

Thrilled and delighted to shine the Saturday Spotlight on fellow Decadent Publishing author, Krista Ames! Krista's latest release, TAKE ME HOME, COWBOY, is from Decadent's Western Escape line.

Blurb:
Ally Kincaid returns to Freewill, Wyoming, to see her father after a two year absence. Anticipating a quiet family reunion, she finds herself butting heads with her father’s foreman instead. The man’s arrogance and sexy drawl push all her buttons, making her wonder what he’s hiding beneath his cowboy swagger.

Matt Gentry walked away from the past and shies from the future. No ties means no one gets hurt…until the boss’s daughter, a hot, green-eyed blonde, tempts him to break his own rules.
When tragedy strikes, will building tension and pride destroy their growing attraction or show them the way home?

Excerpt:

“I need to buy that man an answering machine.” Furious, Ally held the receiver away from her ear, eyes closed as the phone on the other end rang continuously. “Come on, Daddy, where are you?”
She was ready to hang up in frustration when the receiver was picked up and then—by the sound of the loud clanging on the other end—dropped.
“Circle K,” said the deep male voice rather breathlessly.
“Where in the world were you?”
“Excuse me?” the husky voice asked.
Oh crap, that’s definitely not Daddy. She’d been so surprised her call had finally been answered, she hadn’t realized there was nothing familiar about the voice at the end of the line “I’m sorry….” she cracked. Wow, where did that high-pitched squeak come from? “I’m sorry, who is this?”
“This is the Circle K Ranch. Who’s this?”
The man’s question held an impressive sexy drawl. Definitely not a voice she’d ever heard in New York City, and one she’d only be lucky enough to find in her dreams.
“I’d like to speak to Jesse Kincaid, please.” She did a mental inventory of all the ranch hands but couldn’t place the voice. And he obviously didn’t recognize hers either. Must be somebody new her father had hired since the last time she’d been there.
“Sorry, ma’am, he’s not here. What can I do for ya?”
“When will he be available, please?”
“Now, ma’am, I don’t guess I’m at liberty to say until I know exactly who it is I’m speaking at.”
God, men could be so arrogant. Why did he need to know who was calling? A simple answer would suffice.
“Not that it’s any of your business, but this is Ally Kincaid. Who exactly are you?”
“Well, well, isn’t this a nice surprise? Miss Ally Kincaid. Did your father know you’d be calling?
She gritted her teeth in frustration. Who does this cocky, know-it-all cowboy think he is?

Review from Books,Books and More Books:
I’ll be honest, I am a big fan of contemporary western romances…and books like Take Me Home, Cowboy are the reason. This is my first book by author Krista Ames and I was very impressed that she put such a delightful twist on old favorite ~ big city girl returns to her roots where she discovers love.
This is a very sweet and touching romance between two people that soon discover an attraction through sexual tension. The author was even able to turn something that normally completely repulses me -- characters who keep secrets from each other – into something wonderful. Matt never let his secret get in the way of his character or his genuine feelings for Ally; you could feel the very deep emotional connection between the characters.
I could go on and on about this book, but it's better for you to just go buy it and then read it.

BLIZZARD!

BLIZZARD is here!

BLURB:

Mandy Malone ditches her pharmaceutical convention and the married male colleagues hitting on her to hurry home to her waiting family. But she doesn’t bank on the blizzard that forces her off the road and into a deserted rest stop. When she meets another road refugee, their attraction is immediate and molten hot. Suddenly, getting stranded doesn’t seem like such bad luck after all.

Although totally unprepared for Mandy’s unvarnished proposition, Jack is intrigued by the erotic offer of a promising night of no-questions-asked sex. But when he notices the wedding band on Mandy’s finger, will he forego the lure of a torrid clandestine affair, or give in to the fantasy of blazing hot sex on a wintry night?

EXCERPT:

She rooted around in her handbag again, on the off chance she’d missed something useful to her current situation.

“Is this what you’re looking for, lady?”

Mandy glanced up, startled by the deep, rumbling baritone that echoed loudly in the fairly quiet building. And even more startled by the tall, gorgeous hunk of manhood bundled into a down parka standing next to her table.

I could totally jump him. Right here. Right now.

From nowhere, steamy erotic images of what she wanted to do with the man leaped unbidden into her head. She’d never felt such instant attraction to anyone, such a frantic desire. Maybe it was a reaction to her frightening experience on the Thruway. Or maybe something else created the overpowering chemistry.

Besides being the most handsome man she’d ever laid eyes on, he held out a battery-operated pocket charger. A sigh escaped her as he stared down at her.

“It’s not the only thing I’m looking for.” Her voice, husky and sultry, and laden with blatant sexual innuendo, shocked her. Where had those words come from? Nearly alone with him in the deserted rest stop…and still she felt…safe.

“Yeah?” The man removed his parka, revealing a plaid flannel shirt, the triangle of a white, cold-weather T-shirt peeping from the open neckline. When he raised his arms, thick bands of muscle rippled across his chest, beneath the layers of fabric. He riveted her with brilliant azure eyes, bluer than a lake under the summer’s sun. His hair, which curled a bit boyishly at his temples, resembled a wet beach, light, dirty brown, with shimmering bronze threads straggling through the locks. But this was no boy. No, indeed.

God. Gorgeous did not even begin to cover it. The longer he looked at her, the hotter she became. So hot she suddenly felt she’d do anything, dare anything with this man.

Bits of BLIZZARD

BLIZZARD's official release date is Friday! (Which means that, very possibly, you will be able to find it on Thursday at some vendors.)

Check out the Countdown Clock in the sidebar on the right. Fun, isn't it? (Okay, tacky. But still.)

Here are a few sentences from BLIZZARD while we wait:

Just the sight of the guy had her aroused. She wanted to do bad things with him. Bad, bad things. Her excitement increased.

"What else are you looking for?" His low, almost harsh growl kicked up her temperature a few more notches. The sexy, gravelly timbre of his voice resonated through her. One of his eyebrows lifted. No question, he’d caught her invitation, recognized it for what it was.

Did he really need her to say it out loud?

"Looking for you," she murmured.

 EXCERPT:

“Look, I’m not gonna lie to you.” He loosened his hold on her while he perused her face, settling on her mouth. “I wasn’t sure about this one-night thing to start with, but after seeing you…well, I can definitely follow through. No problem.” He shifted his attention to her face, the naked heat swirling in his baby blues causing her breath to catch. “But after what all you told me, I want you to know I get it. We can play this thing any way you want. Fast. Slow. Or I can just hold you.” He trailed his fingers up and down her arms, sending delicious tingles along her skin. “Though I’ll admit, that’s not my first choice.”

She stared at him. God, he was such a gentleman. Without hesitating, she lifted onto her toes, wrapped her arms around his neck, crushed her mouth against his, and…holy crap, what a kiss! Her pulse jumped, her head spun. A fire sparked deep inside her, and her breath caught at the passion winding through her. She didn’t know what she’d been expecting exactly, but not anything like this.

Before she melted into a puddle at his feet, she broke the kiss and gazed up at him. “Does that answer your question?”

A sexy grin curved his lips. “Yes, ma’am.”
