“We need to talk.”
Tossing the clothes and keys inside, she stood in the entrance, blocking his view of her home. “No, we needed to talk last Saturday, last Sunday, or Monday even. Not today. It’s too late. I get the message. You’ve avoided me all week, because you weren’t away on business. I heard you enough times slamming cupboards, drawers, and arguing with the voices in your head.”
“With my brother.”
“Whatever. Plenty of time to come over and talk.”
She ducked inside and shut him out, but couldn’t quite latch the door, Chal obviously pushing on it from the other side.
“I know what you are.” The words came out in barely a whisper, but loud enough for her to quit fighting him. “I know what that thing is on the floor behind you, and even though it’s giving me a killer headache, I’m still here because, as I said, we need to talk.”
Grabbing the front of his shirt, Angela yanked him inside, and locked the world out. “Fine, what do you know?”

And now...here's RAIN

Blurb:

       Sleeping Beauty in a post-apocalyptic land…

In a world gone mad, where little remains but a vast wasteland of sand, the leader of a troop of roving warriors welcomes a brave young woman into his midst.

Much as he burns for her, Major Clay Worthington swears to keep his distance from the mysterious woman, so sensitive even the stinging rain can wound her.

Rosina Brierly is besotted with the formidable soldier and will gladly trade her life for one torrid night of blissful passion in his arms.

But when sleep overcomes them, will true love prevail?

Excerpt:
Does the major ever feel lust? Does he covet a woman’s touch? He never gave any sign he did. Too aloof and austere, too remote from the simple emotions of mere mortal men.

He shook her again. “Wake up, princess. The rain will come soon.”

The men looked forward to the rain. They hated the relentless sun blasting down upon them, as if they thought it would incinerate what was left of the earth beneath their boots, baking the soft sand into badlands as hard as concrete. They’d strip off their T-shirts and boots, their combat fatigues, and sometimes even their camouflage boxer shorts, and dance and play, naked or nearly so, in the slanting gray soup, laughing, tossing round balls or throwing saucer-shaped plastic discs to each other.

For her, the showers had the opposite effect. The stinging rain sliced into her sensitive skin like acid, raising blisters and sores, sometimes bloodying her.

She did not know why the major called her princess. Perhaps he didn’t know either. Whatever royalty once walked the earth had long gone, fled underground or died in battle or simply disappeared. The war engulfed every human on the planet, every inch of land, and had waged so long she doubted anyone remembered anymore. Well, maybe Nicodemus. At least he sometimes hinted he did in the stories he told. And she had seen him whisper into the major’s ear, unknown things that made the major pale beneath his weathered tan.

Major Worthington did not treat her like a princess, though, except when she slumbered, when he knelt before her in her fantasy world, his head bowed, his fist over his heart, laying his sword at her feet and claiming the role of knight. Her hero. Her champion. When she awoke, he remained one of the elite warrior breed roaming the planet, bristling with weapons like the soldiers he led. He treated her as the translator she was to him, sometimes barking orders to her as if she were one of his men, only occasionally seeking her counsel.

She came fully awake as he jerked her up from the ground and yanked her toward him. The glare of the setting sun broadsided her, hurting her eyes. Why was he so insistent about the impending rain? No clouds yet darkened the sky, although the hour sped toward evening dusk now. But no hint of shadow yet blotted the horizon.

“I can smell it,” he muttered.

And they are not at all  meant to be together...

Has Madame Eve made a huge mistake, or will Daran tread into forbidden territory to be with the one woman he's always wanted, and become the hero Skylar craves?

EXCERPT

His evening was supposed to be fun and exciting. Not filled with the worry of his companion learning of his extraterrestrial origins, or of her outing him to the world. He’d kept his hair short, to hide the feathers that grew in when his locks reached a certain length. And, each morning, he covered his exposed skin with waterproof foundation to conceal the blue tinge of his skin. But, as soon as he removed his clothing later in the night, his façade would end. He wouldn’t be able to hide his differences. Unless we stay in this part of the hotel all night. The dim lighting would make his skin color less obvious.

Perfect! He stood, his muscles finally relaxing, the tension melting away. Circling the room, he blew out every third candle. Just to be sure. In the morning, his one-night lover would leave, never knowing she’d had sex with an alien.

Daran returned to his chair, leaning back, hands behind his head. Or, if he was really lucky, he’d find an Earth woman who considered extraterrestrials to be sexy.
The door to the observatory rattled and he jumped to his feet, brushing sweaty palms across his pants. Heart pounding, he glanced up at the sky. Gods, please let this evening work out.
With a burst of light, the door opened. A woman stepped through, her long, lean body hidden in shadows. Clutching his fingers behind his back, he waited for her to move closer, needing to see her better.
A strange tingling filled him. Not good. Something’s wrong. He swallowed the sudden lump in his throat. I should never have agreed to this. Trying to step back, he stumbled when the message didn’t reach his feet.

His date drew nearer, her appearance becoming more defined. A silver dress hugged her body, both protecting and giving a hint of the delicious treat inside. The candlelight reflected off her wide eyes, leaving them glowing like sapphires. With most of her hair pulled back, the remaining long blue tendrils framed her face and highlighted her matching lips. But her radiant, mesmerizing eyes sparked his recognition. He knew her. His stomach sank along with all hopes for the evening.

“Oh, fuck.”

Of all the women on Earth—hell, in the universe—for him to be set up with, Madame Eve had to pick the one lover he could never have.

Six Sentence Sunday 8-26-2012

Another six from LIGHTNING, coming in late October (still tentatively) from Decadent Publishing's 1Night Stand series.

“Sorry to keep you waiting, sweetness,” a deep voice said behind her, as a  man’s large hand clamped down on her bare shoulder, interrupting her thoughts.
The gruff sensuality of the voice, the maleness of the roughened hand against her flesh, sent a tiny lick of pleasure racing through her. The surprise of the masculine touch sparked immediate shimmers of electricity.  Ozone crackled, brief as a spent match, a mere flicker in the air before her eyes.
The man seemed not to notice her charged reaction, as his fingers, strong and firm, meandered up the side of her neck, holding her in place. Small bursts of sizzling arousal popped across her nerve endings.

Six Sentence Sunday 8/19/12

Just found out THUNDER will  release (tentatively) from Decadent Publishing only two weeks after the release of  LIGHTNING.  Unexpected thrill!  So since I've had sixes from THUNDER the last couple of weeks, here are six from LIGHTNING, my first story for Decadent's 1Night Stand Series.

Campbell didn’t need to be reminded of the blank six weeks that had been cut from his life when he was a high school senior. He picked at that still-raw scab every minute of every damn day, replaying the erotic scenes leading to his flame-out over and over at night.
First he’d been groaning in utter bliss, finally thrusting inside Lily’s tight, wet sheath, as deep as he could drive himself, his hands kneading her soft breasts, his lips grinding against hers as he swallowed her ecstatic moans of pleasure. Pumping, pounding, screwing her in the back seat of his Camaro for all he was worth, lightning bolts arcing faster and fiercer across the night sky. Long past counting how many times they’d made each other come.
         Until his brain short-circuited.

Check out the other Six Sentence Sunday participants.
