Six Sentence Sunday: 10-17-2010

I'm returning to Pomegranate Seeds, my paranormal WIP, and playing with the beginning. There are parts of this story I love more than anything else I've ever written. But I know I need to get to Steph sooner. So, much as I love that the first time we see her is the first time Aidon sees her,  I'm slashing and burning and writing her a new little B.A. (Before Aidon) part, around page 3 or so. But I'm keeping the meet. And, at least for now, the first person, present tense narrative.
So here's Aidon, one of my favorite heroes ever, felled, flat on his ass, gazing up at Steph, awash in love juice and baffled and befuddled. (Well, maybe not totally.)

(Ten sentences smashed into six for Six Sentence Sunday. You can probably tell where they were soldered together. Or where overly creative punctuation was employed. Won't stay that way!)

Testosterone sloshes through me and passions of every stripe, formerly without power, inflame me. Emotions I’d thought long dead and buried erupt like a fireworks display and I’m ready to leap up, naked, wounded, unarmed but belligerent, screaming for satisfaction. War, sex. My id’s in masculine overdrive; my inner hound howls.
      I need to have her.
     Now.

Finally, I get to see a little snippet of the book you love! Great six!

Nice. And don't worry I don't count the sentences so you could have cheated and made it ten - lol

Thanks, Lisa (Yeah, he's definitely in the moment.)

Heather -- So far, I'm the only one who does, I think. Hoping a little slash and burn will change that!

Liz --Pretty sure you've heard way more than 10 by now!

I LOVE reading a story in first person from a man's POV--just something so sexy about it! And with that snippet, I can only imagine I'd be left drooling!!

Oh, I do love first person male perspective. I wish there was more of it. Very hot excerpt. :)

Taryn Kincaid said...

Aidon often has some interesting perspectives!

Wow, Taryn, that is powerful. It's rare I read first person male viewpoint - I just LOVE this piece.

Slash and burn. Are you crazy? That was great! and counting is WAY overrated at times. What a few sentences between friends! I can't wait to read more.

Woot! (And just do what I would do...post 10.)

Taryn Kincaid said...

Oh, no, Jayel. This isn't the VERY, VERY beginning. The very beginning needs a sharp object. Which I'm now applying. Going pretty well, I think!

Dee -- Thanks. One of my chapter mates suggested 30 Sentence Thursday. But that's probably going a little TOO far overboard, ya think?

The lyrical quality of his inner thoughts are mesmerizing. I love how the allegory (or is it alliteration? I never remember, lol) of his feelings for her is so poignant. I'm not one for first person, cause it is usually in the heroine's pov, so this one took me by surprise. I'd love to see more. Liking that it is through his eyes.

Great excerpt from a male's perspective. Is he going to get her?

Taryn Kincaid said...

Christa: Thanks!Surprising to me that so many of you are surprised about the male POV! But glad you seem to be liking it.

I'm an equal oppty scribbler, tho. Steph gets her own POV, too.

Taryn Kincaid said...

Hi, Jessica. Well, it is a romance novel, even if it does take some twists and turns. Does he get her today? Nuh-uh.

My favorite part = "...and I’m ready to leap up, naked, wounded, unarmed but belligerent, screaming for satisfaction. War, sex."

Terri, Won't say much but you do know I like this story and also know my other objections. They are a hot couple and there are so many moments of brilliance in the storytelling

It's really fun to read some of what you mentioned last Sat. with such wistfulness. I think it's good to return to a first love- it's a reunion story now, well, for you. Great, expressive stuff!
