There's no trick to this (well, maybe a small one at the end!)
None. So simple even I can do it.
CANDY APPLES
8-10 apples
1 c. sugar
1 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. red cinnamon candies
Inserts sticks in apples. Boil everything else to hard crack stage. If you have a candy thermometer, that'd be to 300-310 degrees. If not, don't fuss yourself. You'll know. Swirl apples in candy (quickly) and place on wax paper.
Want even simpler?
CARAMEL APPLES
(Just take the cellophane off the candy!)
6 apples
1 package (14 oz.) individually wrapped caramels
2 tablespoons milk
Insert sticks in apples.
Butter baking sheet.
Microwave caramels and milk two minutes, stirring once.
Cool briefly.
Roll each apple in melted caramel.
Nuts and such optional

YUM! As a child I loved candy apples. Now with caps on my teeth, they are not happening. Have you ever had Gertrude Hawk's carmel apples with chocolate chips? To die for. I cut them in pieces and eat at room temperature...when I eat them....which isn't often....I swear. But I wish I had one right now! No need to put me in your drawing. I already have a copy of your book!
I dislike candy apples, but I love caramel ones!! Mmm, now I kinda want a caramel apple...and it's only 8am... (Take my name out of the random drawing for a book. I already own it!)
Thanks, kids. I'm off to work but my sweet tooth (make that teeth!) are all a-tingle.
I absolutely love caramel apples. One of my favorite "treats."
Oh no, now I want to eat candy apples. I had forgotten how yummy they looked. I already bought Sleepy Hollow Dreams, but I wanted to come by and say hi!
SOB! Those look soooo yummy - and I want -- but alas! My dental work won't allow me to partake, and even if I could, I was recently diagnosed as diabetic... so the only sweet treats I can have are of the male persuasion...
Never made candy apples (used to get them at the fair when I was little and loved them until I bit into a bad one and found 1/2 a worm! ug!) But my cousins and I used to make caramel apples with my grandmother. She'd do all the hard stuff and we'd get to dip and eat! She also used to make popcorn balls this time of year...wish I knew the recipe!
WOW! I never would have guessed the red candy apples are made with cinnamon hots. Will try that this weekend! And I have a candy thermometer. Writing down recipe...
I'm giving away treats at my blog today through Sunday too! http://blog.skhyemoncrief.com

When I walk by a bag of caramels in the grocery store I literally salivate. Thanks for the recipe!

I'm drooling at the pic of the caramel apples. YUM CITY!
Yummy! I have made candy apples before and it's surprising how easy it is to do!
This is cruel, now I want one of each!
carmel apples for my family, the kids love helping make them and eating them..
I love caramel apples although I've never made them myself. I like candy apples too.

Now you've made me hungry. I love caramel apples--or caramel anything.
Those caramel apples look so good. I wait all year for apple season, so can go to the apple farm and get caramel apples. But the recipes look pretty easy.
I love caramel apples. I don't know that I'd be successsful MAKING them. I'd pop the candy in my mouth instead of the pot! :-)
I know, right? Don't those apples look gorgeous? And sweet? I may have to find some time this weekend to run out and get the ingredients myself!
P.L ~ When I was a kid, the neighbor lady across the street always made a batch and reserved them for the immediate surrounding kids. And it never failed that I futzed around with getting my costume right (or, rather, Mom did!) so long, that I missed them, anyway. Kind of like Linus sitting in the Great Pumpkin patch and missing trick or treat! (Loaded up on tons of chocolate, instead.)
Bygeorge! That made me LOL! Not you being diabetic -- that's never any fun. But licking something of the male persuasion. Sweeeeet. Not bad for a consolation prize.
Lily -- Did that once with a cherry tomato. Took me a looooooong time to get over it. But I did eventually.
Skye~ I didn't know about the cinammon candies, either. (We used to call them Red Hots, when I was a kid -- wow, Halloween really makes me regress and brings out the kid in me again). But recipe after recipe included them. It was only the very rare one that added food coloring. I wonder how it would be with something like pomegranate juice? Must try that sometime!
Liz -- You and me, both. Last week I bought a bag of Milk Duds (little mini boxes about four duds to a box)for the nostalgia of it (in my adolescent days when we'd go to the movies, the boys would toss them at the unwary down in front. Ouch! Not to mention a sorry waste of chocolate covered caramel!) Plowed through practically the whole sack single-handedly. And my dentist thanks the evil Hershey company for that! Probably put a down payment on a boat for him.
Liz F, Mary, Nanbon, Sherry, Caroline and Maeve ~ I'd love to give you all individual responses but I'm about to go into a sugar coma. (No, actually, I just got home and have to dash out again!)
Thank you all for stopping by and indulging me -- as well as your sweet teeth!
Must run out for awhile.
But come on back some time before the witching hour and I'll let Harry's Sorting Hat (or a Yankees baseball cap) do its thing.
Wendy, Heather, Shoshanna ~ I love that you all stopped by. But I don't think you're going to be sent to Gryffindor or Ravenclaw this year! Hope you enjoy reading Sleepy Hollow Dreams anyway!
Thanks for the support, kids.
Thanks for popping by, Jean! You're in the Sorting Hat!
This is not fair. I just had a tooth pulled and the last thing I can eat is a candied apple. BOO,hoo.
Thanks JL and Marcella! Everyone's got a story it seems!
Oh yum! You're making me totally hungry. And these recipes do look quite doable.
Thanks for coming by, Joder. I'm dying for something sweeeeeeeet right now myself!
And the Sorting Hat proclaims...

Had every intention of making the caramel apples today. Bought a bag of caramels and picked up a sack of apples from the farm stand.
Now eating the caramels right out of the bag. (I'm so predictable.)
