I am in the middle of a couple of projects right now and couldn't decide what the heck to pick for
Six Sentence Sunday this week. And, all of a sudden, I had a craving to pull my first completed full-length ms --
Lilacs at Dawn, a Regency like
Healing Hearts -- out of its hiding place and take another look. I can't believe I wrote a 429-page book. Ever. Eventually, I may go back to tinker. This is a small scene (not this small, but not much longer) in the hero's POV wedged between wedding planning and wedding mayhem.
The night before he was to be wed, a bullet slammed into his chest and he crumpled to foreign soil, knowing he had failed.
"Forgive me, England," he murmured as his eyes closed.
He thought of the girl, fresh as lilacs at dawn, who would stand alone in the church the next morning, waiting for a bridegroom who would not come. His hand closed over a satin garter trimmed with lace and blue velvet ribbon.
"Forgive me, my darling."
Blackness claimed him.

Oh, so sad, and with a beautiful title, too. I agree, would love to hear more of this seemingly sad story.
Oh wow, heartbreaking.
So sad yet so intriguing.
Gripping emotions surrounded by lovely language.
I loved it! Great hook, kiddo!
Oh, no!
Great set up. Definitely makes me want to read more.
Oh, that's the type of scene that always pulled me into a romance. The injured hero falls!

Oh God, that's so wonderfully sad! You must dust it off and breathe new life into it.
Wow, very intense. Hope you get back to this story.
Wow, so dramatic. I bet he'll live to the end though, right?
Awww! I hope he makes it.
Oh, no. *lip tremble* That's heartbreaking.
Whoa! Failed his country and his woman. That's pretty terrible.
A regency and he already has her garter? Isn't he a naughty boy, and since only the good die young I'm sure he's not actually dead.
Great Six!
What can I say? My boys are fast workers!
You just made me cry
Oh my! No, he can't die! Great hook!
Very sad! :-(
It's so dramatic. Which is what it's supposed to be, duh. I saw your 6 sentence Sunday posts on your blog, I really thought it was all your idea. Spawners really are a brilliant group. Lilacs are my favorite flower. I even have one blooming this year in so cal. 6SS is a great concept. maybe I'll join in.
No, not my idea, Celeste! Brainchild of the incomparable Sara Brookes. Started out a year ago with Sara and 3 other participants. Now 80...or more!
You should play!
Ooh, good snippet!
Very poignant, moving and tragic. I definitely think you should dust this one off.
Sad! He can't really be dead...
Really intriguing sentences. Do look this over again for real.
Oh, yes, make sure to look this over again! And thanks for commenting on my blog today!

This scene, vignette, is so powerful. It makes me want to read the before and after. And please tell me he did make it to the altar.
Llilacs at Dawn will be as big a hit as Healing Hearts
I like this! I love the contrast between the event he anticipates (wedding) and what actually happens (gunshot). Very nice!
I love that! I hope you publish it. Put me on the list of people to contact when you do.
I like your writing a lot. I'm going to check out your Carina book!
Noooo! Damn...I hate it when that happens. You've sucked me in. Need more!
Heartrending six!
