Lucky 13 Trick or Treat Blog Hop

Welcome to the Lucky 13 Trick or Treat Blog Hop. We love October and we LOVE Halloween! And we're giving away prizes galore in a Trick Bundle and a Treat Bundle. The Grand Prize is a Kindle Paperwhite!

There's no better place on earth to celebrate Halloween than Sleepy Hollow, where even the street signs are orange and black and the high school team is called The Horsemen.

And what's better than October apples and Halloween candy? Candy apples!
There's no trick to this (well, maybe a small one at the end!)
None. So simple even I can do it.
CANDY APPLES

8-10 apples
1 c. sugar
1 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. red cinnamon candies

Inserts sticks in apples. Boil everything else to hard crack stage. If you have a candy thermometer, that'd be to 300-310 degrees. If not, don't fuss yourself. You'll know.  Swirl apples in candy (quickly) and place on wax paper.

Want even simpler?
 CARAMEL APPLES
(Just take the cellophane off the candy!)
6 apples
1 package (14 oz.) individually wrapped caramels
2 tablespoons milk

Insert sticks in apples.
Butter baking sheet.
Microwave caramels and milk two minutes, stirring once.

Cool briefly.

Roll each apple in melted caramel.
Nuts and such optional

Tell me your favorite Halloween story and I'll send one randome commenter a Sleepy Hollow t-shirt (U.S. only) or an Amazon or ARe gift card if you're outside the U.S.
And don't forgot to hop on the Lucky 13 Blog Hop for chances to win the Grand Prize and TRICK or TREAT book bundles.

my favorite family story is when my niece was about 9 months old it was her 1st halloween so her mom dressed her as a clown. after trick or treating was over she fell asleep on the gray tiles in the kitchen and her mom took a picture. when we got it back the only thing missing was the chalk outline! she looked like a dead clown laying on concrete but she was sooo cute you just couldn't help laughing.

I thought it was funny that my teenagers wanted to go trick-or-treating last year but my younger ones who are 8 and 9 thought they were too old to go ;)
Thanks for the recipes for apples. We usually buy them however that recipe is easy enough.

Oh, yum that looks good! Thanks for joining us on the hop Taryn! One of my other favorite Halloween stories is when I took my daughter trick-or-treating at Disney World. The Boo To You Parade was a blast

Taryn Kincaid said...

Hi, Tammy! I love your dead clown story! I envy babies who can fall asleep anywhere and still be adorable.

Taryn Kincaid said...

Beautiful Disaster~ that is a great story. 8 or 9 is definitely the best age for trick or treating, I think. Not too old, not too young. I grumble when I get the teenagers coming to the door who don't even bother with costumes.

Taryn Kincaid said...

Heather ~ Great hop! Thanks for having me. Halloween at Disney must have been a hoot and a treat. We spent a 4th of July there once and the parade and fireworks were great!

Halloween was my late Mom's birthday so every year before trick or treating my 7 kids would get to party at Grandma's house with lots of treats and then go Trick or Treating. But one year they over did it at Grandma's and when we got ready to leave there were all these little kids in costume laying around practically groaning and asking "do we have to go trick or treating' lol lol needless to say we didn't go that year. :)

Growing up in a really small town, the entire community used to go all out for Halloween. Every house was decorated, and neighbors tried to out do one another as the "scariest house", for the right to be the "talk of the town" until the next year. But from ages 7-9, there was one house that would scare you so badly, kids used to wet themselves and run screaming! And one year - I threw my candy and ran half way down the street with my parents laughing.

It was an old Victorian era home with a wrap around porch. When you stepped up on to the porch to ring the doorbell, there was a man standing at the end of the porch. He wasn't moving at all. He was dressed in a black suit and had really pale skin, and all around him, there was smoke billowing. All of us kids would look at him while we were ringing the doorbell. While we were looking at him, the door would fly open, and a woman dressed as a witch would be standing there commenting on how she loved to cook little kids(scaring you once). She had a cauldron that was full of candy. While you were grabbing your candy, something would shatter on the opposite side of the porch, drawing your attention. While you were looking there, the man in black would slowly start walking towards you. About half way to you, he'd start to groan and smile at you. In his mouth were teeth with fangs - blood covering them. He'd raise his arms at you and the witch would start cackling, both acting like they were going to snatch you. When you'd start to run off of the porch, the leaves next to the stairs would rustle, and someone dressed as a werewolf would jump up from under them, and growl at you.

Seriously... it might sound comical now, but it was one of the most terrifying houses! I'm 30 now, and they scared children until about 5 years ago. They were pros at it. I sometimes wish more people would still get in to the theater of it all. That's part of what makes the holiday so much fun! :)

Thanks for sharing and for a great giveaway! :)

One year I was out with friends, we went up to a house.. it was so darn scary I ran for like 5 blocks.. They had people dressed up in all the roles... the fog, teeth blood, everything. I always try to get that good on Halloween, but it's just not the same..

One year, my brother and I were visiting our grandma on Halloween. My parents stopped having us trick or treat a year or two before that. We decided we'd pretend to be dressed up and go get candy anyway :-P I said I was Christina Aguilera. I don't remember what my little brother said :P

Ah. Sweet. Thanks for stopping by, Tia and smiles! Don't forget to leave email addies, peeps.

One year my town and my cousins' town (next town over) were having candy night on different nights. So that year we went out with our cousins in both towns. We thought we were soo cool cheating the system and getting double candy!

Taryn Kincaid said...

Oooh! Double the fun!

Unknown said...

One year when we were allowed to go on our own we thought we were smart to empty our bags whenever we were close to home so we could get even more candy. We returned home the last to find out our Mom had given most of it away. She said it was only stuff we didn't like but we knew better. The next year we took pillow cases so we didn't have to unload. She still laughs about it now and warns her grandchild not to make the same mistake.

Random story: I was sleeping soundly one Halloween early morning, when my dad woke me up. He said I had to go to my grandmothers house and sleep. I carried my pumpkin over there (she lived next door), and then I found out my mother was having my sister. So she was born right before midnight on Halloween night. We call her Spook.
