Six Sentence Sunday 2/27/2011 Anniversary Edition

It's time. No more waiting. HEALING HEARTS releases from Carina Press tomorrow. To say I'm excited would be understating it!

And to make it even better, it's the one-year anniversary of Six Sentence Sunday, my favorite Sunday addiction!

To celebrate, the Six Sentence Sunday participants are donating fabulous prizes, from gift cards to books, including a digital e-copy of HEALING HEARTS from me. Just comment on one of the participants' blogs (like, you know, here!) to be eligible to win.

My Six Sentence Sunday snippet this week is from...wait for it...

Despite all he’d been through on the Peninsula, despite his present inelegant position and the pain that still tightened his brow and skewed his smile, despite her certainty that he had gotten very unused to the habit of smiling at all—the wry humor she remembered from that long-ago garden party somehow managed to seep out.

Deep within she felt a steady drip, drip, drip and knew this virile man was melting the ice around her heart. Could he hear the thunder of its erratic beat over the roar of the waves crashing on the rocks below? She was so close to him she could see the thin, jagged white scar edging the line of his jaw--another souvenir of the war, no doubt.

“Did you hear me accept your ‘proposal’?” she murmured, nearly swallowing her words.

"You will.”

Yadda Yadda Yadda

No Friend Friday today.

On the one hand, I forgot.  On the other hand I've been a little busy.

HEALING HEARTS (in case I haven't said it often enough) releases from Carina Press on Monday. Tuesday is Carina Press promo day on the Carina Press blog, on Twitter and Facebook. Because I am totally addlepated, I took off from work on Monday, instead of Tuesday.  Will see what I can do about that tomorrow, but considering the state of my work calendar, I'm not too hopeful about that.

Anyway, I'll be in a number of places.

Catch me now at Jennifer Jakes' blog, Warm Days, Cool Nights and Hot Guys. (I especially like that last part, don't you?

I'll be popping in for an interview with Liz Lipperman at Mysteries & Margaritas on Monday.

In addition to Carina Press on March 1, I'll also be with Rachel Leigh   at her blog on Tuesday and at Nicole North's  "Fierce Romance" blog on March 3. And possibly showing off my "Writer's Lair" at Eileen Andrews' place.

A little farther down the road, I'll be guest blogging at Dear Author on March 14,   the RWA Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal chapter blog on March 16, and the Carina Press historical author's blog, Romancing the Past, also on March 16.

In the interim, I'll still be doing Six Sentence Sunday snippets here.

And, oh yeah, going quietly insane.

Six Sentence Sunday 2-20-2011: HEALING HEARTS

HEALING HEARTS releases from Carina Press one week from tomorrow!

So...of course we are going there for Six Sentence Sunday.

“You must marry me,” he insisted.

Her ready indignation sparked and she returned her gaze to him, sharp as a lance. “Why? Because you kissed me?”

“Because you liked it. And want more."

FRIEND FRIDAY: ELERI STONE

Today's Friend Friday guest blogger is Eleri Stone, a fellow Carina Press author. Her paranormal novella, MERCY, is a hot, shapeshifter read. I loved it!

Here's the blurb:

To the Yaguara, an ancient jaguar shape-shifting people living deep in the Amazon jungle, nothing matters more than strength. Iada is their champion; genetically pure, she has been trained since birth to fight. Her destiny is to become the next Queen of the Yaguara by winning the tournament of succession—a battle to the death.

Her opponent is Gabriel, a half-blooded outcast whose mother was human. To everyone's shock, he defeats Iada but does not strike the death blow—instead, he extends mercy, thereby claiming her as his mate.

Despite their enmity, the attraction between them is powerful, and soon they are mates in more than name only. Their mutual distrust serves only to fuel their passion—two champions bested only by their overpowering desire for each other.

But Gabriel has an agenda that threatens the most basic tenets of Yaguara society—and that will force Iada to choose between her people or her King.

And here's Eleri:

I’m between books right now. MERCY, my debut novel, released from Carina Press this fall (Yay!). I have a contract for another jaguar shapeshifter book set in the same world (double Yay!) but that one won’t release for several months. I have a paranormal romance almost ready to submit and a historical fantasy I’m self-editing right now. So until my next edits come in, my time is flexible and I’ve been catching up on some of the reading I’ve missed.

I’ve been trying out a lot of newer authors from different epublishers these last few weeks and I thought I’d share a few of my favorites.

EVERLONG by Hailey Edwards. This is a paranormal romance published by Samhain publishing. I loved the hero in this one, especially how much he was willing to sacrifice in order for the woman he loved to be happy.

TEN TRICK RUBY by Julia Knight which is a great fantasy with pirates, magic, a strong heroine and a complex villain. From Carina Press.
WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER by Fallon Blake. I really like the sense of humor that comes through in her writing. This one is a quick hot contemporary from Ellora’s Cave.

Have you read any new or new-to-you authors lately that you’ve just fallen in love with? I’d LOVE to hear some more recommendations if you have them.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

              HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Today, on this day of love and romance, my HEALING HEARTS  heroine, Emma, gets a little frisky and runs a little wild over at multi-published author Amber Leigh Williams' Cozy Page blog.

In her guest blog interview with "Tink,"  Emma spills the beans on her sexy love, Viscount Riverton,  answers such intimate questions about Adam as "boxers or briefs," "bubble bath or hot shower," and ponders such modern-day fascinations as "karaoke"  and "Twitter."

She had a splendid time.

You will too.

Come and play!

Emma, Amber Leigh and I will be giving away a copy of HEALING HEARTS to one random commenter! The winner will be announced on Thursday on the Cozy Page blog.

             Have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Six Sentence Sunday 2/13/2011

Happy almost Valentine's Day!

Another six sentences from HEALING HEARTS, releasing February 28 from Carina Press. Thought about giving you all a taste of Adam & Emma's first kiss...but sometimes passion can't be confined to six sentences. So here's a peek at what happens next...

“Let me go, Riverton,” she said, several heady moments too late, utterly breathless, her face aflame.

“I’m not quite ready to do that, Miss Whiteside.”

She paused a beat and he felt her shiver. He loosened his fierce grip.

“When might you be?”

Never.

FRIEND FRIDAY: SARA BROOKES

As you'll see below, the amazing Sara Brookes, a fellow member of RWA's Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal chapter and my guest blogger today, is modest to a fault. So I'll toot her horn a little for her: She is the creator and originator of Six Sentence Sunday, something I have come to look forward to -- more than sleep and snacks -- every weekend. In one year, Six Sentence Sunday has grown from a twinkle in the eye whose four members could be counted on one hand, to nearly 70 participants as of last Sunday!
And, if you're in the the market for a feisty, kick-ass space cowgirl of a heroine, Sara's heroine Taran cannot be beat.  (And I'm not just saying that because of the clever name!)
But I'll let Sara tell you all about Taran and her story.
Be nice to her while I'm slaving away at the evil day job. I'll see y'all soon!
          Here's Sara!

                                                     *** *** ***

Hi there! First of all, huge thanks to Taryn for asking me here today. Taryn and I started talking on Twitter and she’s one of the regular participants in Six Sentence Sunday, which is a blast.

I write a variety of genres: paranormal, urban fantasy, contemporary and science fiction— all in erotic romance with varying heat levels. What can I say? Writing for me is like ice cream, there’s more than one flavor and I like them all.

Recently, the second book in my science fiction series just released. MIDNIGHT'S SHADOW was one of those books that demanded to be written. When I started writing it last year, I was actually deep in the middle of another book. However, one of main characters started talking and…well…sometimes you just have to listen. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s better to simply give in, get out what that particular character is trying to say and then you can go back to what you were previously working on.

That scene—which is a pivotal one, as it’s a turning point for one of the characters—made it to the final cut of the book and is one of my favorites. See? It pays to listen to the characters sometimes and go with the flow.

MIDNIGHT'S SHADOW is available now from Liquid Silver Books

It’s been months since the traumatic and life-altering events on Sulis. Wallace hasn’t been the same and Taran has spent her nights in an empty bed. When a stranger offers her the opportunity to pilot the extraordinary Spyridon—Taran refuses. There’s too much emotional turmoil in her life right now and the less complications, the better.

But Wallace has other ideas and seizes the opportunity without her knowledge. He deliberately sacrifices the one thing Taran loves unconditionally—Eidolon.

Now Taran finds herself captain of a starship that legend paints as haunted. Nothing is as it seems on a ship that appears to have a mind of its own. Forced to accept the consequences before her, Taran will have to put her faith in a man she doesn’t trust as she tries to win back the love of the man she does.

And MIDNIGHT'S GHOST, the first book in the Star Runner Saga series, is available from Liquid Silver as well.

The timeline is excruciating.

Taran has three days to get her former lover – whom she’s barely speaking to – and the mysterious teenager she knows nothing about from one planet to another. Given the fact her ship, Eidolon, is the fastest in the star runner fleet, Taran knows she can make the run in the time Wallace has allotted. As the best – and only – female pilot, she’s got something to prove.

As if things weren’t complicated enough, Wallace, and the teenager he has in tow, are both escapees from the harshest prison facility in seven galaxies. Not only is Taran putting her career on the line, she’s got the Intergalactic Patrol hot on her heels. It isn’t long before unresolved feelings and tempers flare to life again and Taran is left second-guessing her decision of putting everything she stands for on the line.

Her determination may just cost her everything.

Sara has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost. She enjoys writing about reality with a razor sharp edge and loves where that sometimes takes her during the journey. Sara lives in Virginia with her husband, who long ago accepted the fact she converses with imaginary people. They are the proud parents of an energetic daughter who constantly wonders why Mom doesn’t just have the laptop surgically attached to her hip. The entire family is owned by two cats, Galahad and Loki, who graciously allow them to live in their house. Six Sentence Sunday 2/6/2011

Six more sentences from Healing Hearts, my Regency romance, releasing February 28 from Carina Press!

The corporal’s hair had been light, not this astonishing claret color. And the finely whittled features that seemed to resemble Michael’s at first blush were far different, indeed.

His gaze rested upon cheeks, soft and rounded as plums, that invited the touch of a man’s lips, and then lingered on a sultry mouth shaped for more wicked delights.

The willful, unruly little chit had grown into a diamond of the first water. Her intriguing gray eyes, silver as a saber, fairly snapped at him, the battle waging in them as intense and wrenching as any Adam had experienced on the Peninsula.

Sparks flew as they stared at each other, like those borne by the clash of Toledo steel.

Friend Friday: Stacey Kennedy

My guest today is Stacey Kennedy, one of the Six Sentence Sunday regulars!

Please give her some love!
======================

First of all let me thank Taryn for letting me stop by and chat with you all. If we’ve never met before... HI!

A little thing to know about me is I write Urban Fantasy Romance series. My very first series, The Magical Sword is coming to an end. On January 24, 2011, the final novel, First and Last was released with Liquid Silver Books.

Now, I’ve been asked this before, when do you end a series? Well, I’m going to tell you my point of view on the matter and see if we agree. Let me say it was a tough decision. I had to ask myself, “do I continue writing stories with my beloved characters or do I stop?”

When I finished First and Last, Nexi’s life felt complete to me. As much as I wanted to continue on, write ten more stories about Nexi and Kyden, I just couldn’t. Of course, and we all have seen this, I could have kept writing but along the way I suspect that the characters would change too much and Nexi’s character would’ve felt tired. One woman can only handle so much danger! So, I made the decision to stop the series at four novels.

The good thing was it didn’t mean I couldn’t continue writing in the world I’ve created. It just meant I had to write from another point of view. And that’s exactly what I did. I’ve just finished the first novel in The Enchanted Sight series, Tainted Blood. It makes me happy to say that it will include Nexi and Kyden, but only as secondary characters. However, they still play important roles in the new series.

I felt that to stay true to what I intended to happen in Nexi’s life, the end had to come. It was time to let them go. Was it hard? Of course, very hard. I love Nexi’s character. Her sassy attitude paired with Kyden’s sex appeal...it was difficult to let them. But I felt it important to end their stories feeling complete. I didn’t want to start a whole new set of adventures that gave Nexi any more serious trouble. The girl deserves to rest and live a happy life.

So now, I ask you...how many series have you read that you think have gone on for too long and which ones do you love that have gone on forever?

Oh...and can’t forget this part! If you enjoy urban fantasy romance with dangerous times ahead, steamy sex and drool worthy men—The Magical Sword might be a series you would enjoy.

Reviews for Healing Hearts

The Romance Reviews has given Healing Hearts a four star review!

I'm thrilled and delighted. It's a totally amazing feeling when someone you don't know likes what you've written!

Read all about it:

HEALING HEARTS is a sweet historical romance story that any girl could love. This tale is the perfect combination of drama, angst and passion that will entertain you throughout. If you are looking for that stunning, but short read, HEALING HEARTS is the novel for you.

I was amazed by how deeply I was sucked into this short story. You barely have a hundred pages to understand the characters' past, their passion and their pain but Taryn Kincaid does an amazing job of condensing their story. The heroine, Emma, has a whirlwind of emotions she goes through within such a small amount of time, but you never feel rushed or cheated by the brevity of this story.

I love a tortured hero as much as the next girl and Adam was an amazing tortured hero. You could tell he was considered a somewhat arrogant lad before he went to war, but of course, he has come back a changed man.

Regardless, Emma has loved him for a very long time, but Adam took her twin brother with him to war and did not bring him back. Suffering the despair of her loss and the massive debt her family is in, she is torn between whether or not to confront Adam and ask for his help. She believes that she hates him, but one kiss from this wounded soldier melts her heart. Adam has no doubt Emma belongs in his life as his wife, it's just the small matter of convincing her they belong together.

Shorter stories are normally not my favorite since I sometimes feel you are cheated out of the emotional attachment you could have in a full-length novel, but that was certainly not the case with this story. Adam and Emma pulled me in with their desire for one another, hooked me with their inner torment and satisfied me with their happily ever after.

Ms Kincaid is certainly an author to watch out for. HEALING HEARTS looks to be her second published works and with her talent she has nowhere to go but up. ~ LisaJo
