It's a continuation from my March 6 Six Sentence Sunday snippet from one of my gazillion WIPs, Lilacs of Dawn.
You may remember (well, of course you don't, that's why I've handily provided the date!) very briefly meeting Marc Antony Warren, Viscount Webb (who has a great deal in common with Healing Heart's Adam, actually), who was on a secret mission in France the night before his wedding. As he's shot, he falls unconscious to the ground, clutching his bride-to-be's garter.
Some of you guessed he'd make it to the wedding the next morning. Some of you guessed right. More or less.
Sabrina's fingers bit into Chase's forearm, her legs turning to water as she gazed down the flower-strewn aisle and saw her tall, handsome, impossible bridegroom standing at the altar with his brother, magnificent in his wedding clothes.
Her foreboding returned full blast as she noted the odd pallor washing the color from Webb's grim face, his awkward, unnaturally stiff posture.
He does not want to be here.
"He loves you, Sabrina," Chase whispered, as if guessing her thoughts.
But Webb did not resemble a man in love or a bridegroom eager to be wed.
He looked. . . foxed!

Well, I'm sure she doesn't look completely comfortable either! I hope they hash this out right away. Ugh: wedding days are so stressful. Nice tension in the scene!
Or stoned on ladium. Love this view from her eyes, questioning how he truly feels about her. Shows nicely things are not always as they appear.

I like the snippet overall, but one suggestion: "full blast" struck me as anachronistic. I don't know the origin of the phrase but it did jar me.

You may be right, Linda. I think "full blast" was around, but it does sound like more modern rocketry or something. Maybe I'll go with "full tilt" and conjur up knights in the list instead!

Regency slang for "drunk."
(Although "zombie" might put an interesting twist on things! LOL!)

Great snippet and the only way you'd ever get me caught in the parson's mousetrap was if I was beyond fox.
I love the contrast between the reality and what she's perceiving.
RE: Regency slang
Oddly enough, I once had a crit partner get confused because I used "lost in his cups at an inn." I thought that one would be pretty straight forward. Granted, I cut my teeth with Georgette Heyer and she likes to toss around the slang pretty thick.

This is a great six. I want more! You got me hooked. Loved the "foxed" part.

Poor guy, bullet wound and blood loss notwithstanding he makes it to the altar and gets misunderstood--suspenseful six!
This is why communication is key. Will leaned over and told his bride-to-be she was beautiful, this gentleman might try the same approach.
